BIOGRAPHY
"Synergy...
This single word best describes what happens at Pahrump Valley Pottery"
With any successful collaborative effort there has to be a formula
that works. At PVP the formula is simple: there's no one
in charge. This allows each individual's energy to flow
naturally, forming a collective and strengthening the creative
process. Established in 1992 by potter sculpture Donna Lamm
and her partner, Floyd Young, also a potter, the studio has
attracted the talents of Steve Walls (potter) in 1996. On
occasion Donna's mother, Flo Provenza, and her sister, Liz Provenza
Neth, drop in unannounced, exercise their "super-sculpturability"
and disappear again leaving a mess and the other with their mouths
wide open.
Specializing in the
ancient Japanese firing process known as "Raku", PVP also produces
one of a kind, high and low fire, wheel thrown and hand built,
architectural and functional and whimsical ceramic ware.
Several times per year PVP host a "Raku" party and invited the
public to experience the fun.
Because the players at
PVP have an intuitive understanding of the evolutionary process
that 3 dimensional creations undergoes, the creative spirit has the
freedom to express itself, and every moment spent in the studio
together is a joyous one... Until it's time to clean up!
The pieces are not
functional. Since the clay is still porous, it is not suitable
for food or plants and should be kept in their containers and set
inside the Raku vessel. |
